I have been practicing in the studio today and paired up two vintage s. the amp is my 1958 Gibsonette. it has an on/off switch and a volume knob. the original 10" Jensen sounds great. it is perfect for a six string guitar or harp, as the tone of the amp is warm and breaks up easily. classic blues.
the lap steel I am practicing today is a 1936 Richenbacher model 59. it's tuned to C6. through the Gibson the steel sounds a bit harsh and has no head room before it breaks up.I usually play it through my Fender with reverb turned up. the lap steel because of the horseshoe magnet has a beautiful full and round sound.
the two sitting on the floor looked so nice together I thought to take a pic.
now I am on break from woodshedding, so I'd share.
Nice dogbite....
I always dug those horseshoe pickups. Nice setup. Pretty anyway.

Ive heard a lot about them, but never heard them before. Ill have to do some Youtube searching!! When I have asked for pickup advice for the Lap Steel I made, a lot of people have told me about them.

Thanks for the pic. That is pretty fine. Would love to hear them. You should do a quick youtube video.

here is a soundclick link of a test recording I made when I first got this steel. it is pretty rough, I made it years ago, first clean tones then with an overdrive.
the advantage of a horseshoe pickup is the tonal balance from low string to thin high string.
Nice pairing there! Looks like a Weissenbourne!
