Only Want to Be With You- Hootie and the Blowfish

My friend taught me this one the other day. This song is a really fun one to play once you get the rhythm down. Once you can start playing it fast it gets really fun.
Capo the second fret
The chords used (relative to capo) are:
(E) 022100
(A6/9)? X04200
(F#7sus 4) 2X4400 but you could just play it as XX4400 and it sounds fine
(Bsus4) X24400.
(Asus2) X02200
The main “riff” is made using the E and A chord and uses 16th notes. The strum my friend showed me works really well.
For the E -A “riff” play ddududu udddu Change to the A6/9 on 3rd upstrum and finish the measure.
So play E: ddudud , then after the last downstrum as you bring your pick back up change to the A6/9. and strum u udddu
It is a fast song but you can make this chord change quickly. Just lift up your middle finger after playing the E part of it and slide your index finger to the second fret and your fourth finger down to the fourth fret you don't even have to take them off the strings.
During the intro, when you get to the F#7sus4, and can just place your pinky on the fourth fret of the G string. , just let it ring out for the whole measure and then go back into the E-A progression. That strum works for the E-A riff throughout the song. When you get to the chorus the strum changes a little bit for the other chords. Play the F#7sus 4 and Asus 2 using
D ddu udddu. The first D is a quarter note. Play the F7#7sus4 and Asus2 for the whole measure, When you get to the Bsus4 let it ring out for the measure. Have fun! Once you get the rythym this song is easy and really fun to play.

Intro E-A, repeat several times, then strum F#7sus4 and let ring out and go back into the E-A riff.

E A6 E A6
You and me, we come from different worlds
E A6 E A6 (keep playing that riff)
You like to laugh at me when I look at other girls
Sometimes you're crazy and you wonder why
I'm such a baby cause the Dolphins make me cry
(Chorus):
F#7sus4 Asus 2
Well there's nothing I can do.... I been lookin for a girl like you
(Verse 2 - same thing)
You look at me, you got nothing left to say
I'm gonna pout at you until I get my way
I won't dance you won't sing
I just wanna love you but you wanna wear my ring
F#7sus4 Asus2 E -A
But there's nothing I can do.... I only wanna be with you
Asus2 Bsus4 (let ring) E-A
You can call me your fool... I only wanna be with you
(Verse 3) (E-A)
Put on a little Dylan
Sittin' on a fence
I said, "That line is great," you asked me what it meant by
"Said I shot a man named Gray
Took his wife to Italy
She inherited a million bucks, when she died it came to me"

F#7sus4 Asus2 E-A
I can't help it if i'm lucky... I only wanna be with you
Asus2 Bsus4(let ring) E-A
Ain't Bobby so cool... I only wanna be with you
F#7sus4 Asus2 E-A
Yeah I'm tangled up in blue... I only wanna be with you
F#7sus4 Bsus4 E-A
You can call me your fool... Only wanna be with you
(Verse 4)
Sometimes I wonder
If it'll ever end
You get so mad at me when I go out with my friends
Sometimes you're crazy
and you wonder why
I'm such a baby and the Dolphins make me cry
There's nothing I can do... I only wanna be with you
F#7sus4 Asus2 E-A
You can call me your fool... I only wanna be with you
Asus2 Bsus4 E-A
Yeah I'm tangled up in blue... I only wanna be with you
Only wanna be with you (3x)

I hope this is right let me know if i messed any of it up.

Welcome to GuitarNoise and thanks for the song. I just tried it and it sounded pretty great. This is one of those songs that just makes you feel good when you play it.

Thanks again.

Wes

If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis
