Hi everyone,

Been looking for more songs that sound great with acoustic and electric guitar sharing the load. Also they have to be easy with just a few basic chords and sound fantastic too. There is another motive for this in that when Rodders gets his broken wrist back into action we could maybe work on this together for a future open mic night.

I've always been a fan of folk/protest songs with a sight electric twist and Christy Moore's rendition of this his own song together with beautifully understated solo strat work by Declan Sinnott is just perfect. What a great song this is!!!
(Bono and The Edge also share writing credits)

Spend all this morning listening to it and watching on youtube (yes link will be attached) and playing along. Then finally looking up the tab on Christy's own site and working on it to place the chord changes where I think they need to be. Please forgive me Christy if I have it wrong and for copying from your site. But, I just love this song . So here it is.
NORTH AND SOUTH OF THE RIVER

Verse 1:

I want (G)to reach (D)out over the lock

(C)And feel your hand across the water

(G)Walk with you along an (D)unapproved road

(C)Not lookin' over my shoulder

(G)I want to see, (D)I want to (Em)hear, to under(C)stand

your fear.

Chorus:

But (G)we're (D)north and (C)south of the river

Verse 2:

I've (G)been doing (D)wrong all my life

(C)This holy town has turned me over

(G)A man on the run from what he (D)couldn't understand

(C)As the wind from the Lough blew colder and colder

(G)There was (D)badness (Em)that had (C)it's way

(G)Love was not lost (D)it just got mislaid

Chorus:

(G)North (D)and south (C)of the river

(C)North and south (G)of the river

Instrumental break

Verse 2:

Can we (G)stop (D)playing these old tattoos

(C)Darling I don't have the answer

(G)I want to meet you (D)where you are

(C)I don't need you to surrender

(G)There is feeling (D)so alone

(G)As when (D)the one your (Em)hurting (C)is your own

Chorus:

(G)North (D)and south (C)of the river

Verse 3:

Some (G)high ground is (D)not worth taking

(C)Some connections are not worth making

(G)There's and old church (D)bell no longer ringing

(C)And some songs are not worth singing

Chorus:

(G)North (D)and south (C)of the river

(C)North and south (G)of the river

Repeat Chorus x 4
